About dr. Thomas smith
Hello, I’m glad you’re here. I’m Dr. Thomas Smith – a therapist, licensed clinical social worker, marital and family therapist, and Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida (SW14389). I received my doctorate from the University of Washington in 1981 and have been practicing since 1983. I’m a Clinical Fellow (13755) and an Approved Supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I was a Professor of Social Work at Florida State University for over 30 years before I retired a couple of years ago.
Over the last forty years, I’ve taught over 100 graduate courses and written about 100 publications including a couple books. In 2021, I retired from being the Clinical Director at Honeylake Psychiatric Clinic in Jefferson County and became a full-time therapist and supervisor with the Crossroads Counseling and Wellness Center in Tallahassee. ABOUT MY METHODS
I’ve probably studied about a dozen therapy models and think that the biggest challenge is in fitting them to people. Because people are unique, I got trained in applied behavior analysis, cognitive behavior therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. In addition, I use mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and solution-focused therapy. Finally, I have extensive training and experience in marital and family therapy. My goal always will be to solve your problems in a respectful way.
