About dr. Thomas smith
Hello, I’m glad you’re here. I’m Dr. Thomas E. Smith – a therapist, licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, and Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida (SW14389). I received my doctorate from the University of Washington in 1981 and have been practicing since 1983. I’m a Clinical Fellow (13755) and an Approved Supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I was a Professor of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin and at Florida State University for 40 years before I retired a couple of years ago. I’ve taught over 100 graduate courses and written about 100 publications including a couple books. After I retired from being a professor, I accepted a position as the Clinical Director at Honeylake Psychiatric Clinic in Jefferson County. After I retired again in 2021, I became a full-time therapist and supervisor with the Crossroads Counseling and Wellness Center in Tallahassee. Click here to see my complete resume.
ABOUT MY METHODS
I think that the biggest challenge in choosing therapy is in fitting it to people and their problems. I’ve applied behavior analysis, cognitive behavior therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy as methods to help people. In addition, I use mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and solution-focused therapy. For people who are fighting with their spouse and/or kids, I have a lot of experience in doing marriage and family therapy. Behind whatever we do in therapy, I’ll rely on humor and creativity in solving your problems in a respectful way. Come talk to me today to get started.
